For the second week of Women’s Month, we interviewed our fabulous and feisty Content Manager Brianna Arrighi. She’s a WordMaster who knows a thing or two about strategy and social outreach.
Describe yourself in three words.
Brianna Arrighi: Probably the devil.
What’s your morning ritual?
BA: I set my alarm for 7:15 but I don’t get out of bed until like…8:00. I’m not a morning person whatsoever so I need some time to actually wake up before I hop out of bed. The only rituals I stick to involve washing my face and making sure I have enough time to grab coffee before I head into the office. Everything else is just a mess.
What do you do to get your creative juices flowing?
BA: Honestly, I snack! I’m useless before I eat something. If I’m really stuck, I’ll pick one song and put it on repeat. Something about the consistent background noise helps me focus.
What advice do you have for women who want to break into the field of advertising?
BA: Get weird and learn how to juggle. Advertising requires you to use a lot of different strengths at the same time, so everyday requires balance and prioritization. I think many women get intimidated when their credentials aren’t an exact match to a job description, or their experience is spread out across multiple industries, but I think having a diverse skill set is what makes the Moira Team great. My best advice would be to be confident in the skills you already have and don’t let the skills you need to improve on intimidate you.
What was the biggest obstacle you faced to get to this point in your career, and how did you overcome it?
BA: I used to worry that I wasn’t good enough. Then I cut that shit out and worked harder.
What is your favorite social media platform and why?
BA: Instagram! I love superficial validation from my peers. I’m also a sucker for Pinterest because I like looking a pictures of food that is completely outside of my cooking capability.
What’s your favorite brand? Why?
BA: Um, my own? Just kidding. I really love Glossier, which is a skin care brand that’s taken over social media (and my bank account) by storm. Its rise to cult-beauty status showed the power of having a brand that champions skin care over makeup and being kind to yourself. I’m also consistently impressed by their response time to questions & tags on their social media outlets.
What are five things you couldn’t live without?
BA: Whiskey, The White Stripes, black leather shoes (heeled, obviously), eggs, attention.
Would you rather live without pizza or ramen for a year?
BA: I would rather die than go more than two weeks without buffalo chicken pizza.
What is your favorite thing about working at Moira?
BA: I like that everyday is completely different from the next. I hate having a routine! Luckily, being a part of a boutique agency means that each team member wears many hats. One hour we’ll be working on copy for a luxury jewelry designer, then we’ll run to a meeting with an event planner, then we’ll come up with the social media strategy for a real-estate team. I really enjoy working in an environment that’s fast-paced, deadline-oriented, and highly creative…but my favorite thing? Our team’s collective dark sense of humor.
